About this book

In 1987 Sheila Shand was given a suspended sentence for murdering her father. At her trial, it emerged that she, her mother and her sister, were all subject to brutal abuse at the hands of Leslie Shand. Years later, investigative journalist Amy Vaughan discovers letters and a newspaper cutting about the Shand case while clearing out her late mother's flat. Curious about the case, she decides to visit Sheila's mother who is in a care home. Amy herself had a difficult childhood, subjected to Munchausen By Proxy by her mother in order to keep the affections of Amy's father George. Then George appears on Amy's doorstep after a long absence, saying he is dying... As she pursues her investigation of the Shand case, Amy realises that there is more to the murder of Leslie than the police ever unearthed, including two long-buried skeletons in woods near the family's home ...

Confession of Zeno

Italo Svevo

Long hailed as a seminal work of modernism in the tradition of Joyce and Kafka, and now available in a supple new English translation, Italo Svevo's charming and splendidly idiosyncratic novel conducts readers deep into one hilariously hyperactive and endlessly self-deluding mind. The mind in question belongs to Zeno Cosini, a neurotic Italian businessman who is writing his confessions at the behest of his psychiatrist. Here are Zeno's interminable attempts to quit smoking, his courtship of the beautiful yet unresponsive Ada, his unexpected -- and unexpectedly happy -- marriage to Ada's homely sister Augusta, and his affair with a shrill-voiced aspiring singer. -- Text refers to other edition.

***Book #2 in the Jas Anderson Trilogy*** Detective-Sergeant Jas Anderson, the violent anti-hero of FreeForm, ended that story being expelled from the Glasgow police force. In this all-male environment, inmates don't divide into gay and straight, but into who fucks and who gets fucked. But resilient as ever, Jas forms an unlikely partnership with Steve in his fight for survival.
