Advanced CAD/CAM systems

by R. Soenen and G.J. Olling (1995)

About this book

This book presents a state-of-the-art review of feature techniques in CAD/CAM, outlining recent evolutions and promising research opportunities. It presents a selection of the most representative contributions of an international working conference arranged by the International Federation for Information Processing, held in Valenciennes, France, in May 1994. The book is essential reading for researchers in the field of CAD/CAM, as well as CAD/CAM software developers who need to anticipate end-user requirements. The book will also prove a valuable resource to production managers and engineers in industry.

M. Gross, D. Perrin, eds

"This volume contains the proceedings of the 15th Spring School of the LITP (Laboratoire d'Informatique Théorique et de Programmation, Université Paris VI-VII, CNRS) held from May 25 to 29, 1987 in Saint-Pierre d'Oléron. The meeting was organized by M. Borillo, M. Gross, M. Nivat and D. Perrin. The purpose of this yearly meeting is to present the state of the art in a specific topic which has gained considerable maturity. The proceedings of the last three Spring Schools have already been published in this series and deal with "Automata on Infinite Words" (LNCS 192), "Combinators and Functional Programming Languages " (LNCS 242) and "Automata Networks" (LNCS 316). The contributions gathered for the 1987 conference present a unique combination of automata theory on the one hand and natural language processing on the other hand. Both fields have strong historical links as exemplified by the works of Chomsky and Harris in Linguistics, the work of Backus and others in Computer Science and the work of Schützenberger in Algebra. The methods described and discussed in the field of string processing and automata cover the traditional algorithms for string matching, data compression, sequence comparison and lexical analysis. The papers that deal more directly with natural language processing treat automated text generation, lexical analysis and formal representation."--Publisher's website.

Fabio Mariano

This essay enlights the leading military role played by the city and harbour of Ancona in the Marches, against Muslims attacks, during the XVI century. Antonio da Sangallo jr. designed the strong "Cittadella" above the Astagno hill and other famous military architects carried on the huge "Campo Trincerato" around it, such as Pier Francesco da Viterbo, Giovan Battista Pelori, Pellegrino Tibaldi, Francesco Paciotto, Giacomo Fontana, etc. Born in Ancona, Fontana wrote (1588) a report for pope Sisto V on conditions of the fortifications of his mother town, with several drawings (Codex Vaticano Latino n.13325), which is interely published and widely explicated here, for the first time, by Mariano.

The famous image of Hitler in Paris has become one of the most iconic images of the Second World War. However, Hitler only spent a few hours in Paris before heading to Flanders to re-visit the sites of the battlefields where he had served during the Great War. He was on a propaganda mission to publicize his own war service and a full photographic record of Hitler's visits to France and Flanders was produced by Heinrich Hoffman, Hitler's personal photographer. Those photographs from 1940 have now been collected together for the first time and are reproduced here along with all of the most impor.
