Demographic Transition

by A.T.P.L. Abeykoon and N. Sanderatne (2007)

About this book

The Demographic Transition that has taken place in Sri Lanka over the past 130 years is described in four phases. The first phase, pre 1946, the second phase 1947-1970, the third phase, 1971-2000, and the fourth phase 2001 and beyond. The last phase has to be seen as a period of social and economic readjustment to the realities of the demographic transition. It is a period that provides opportunities to make qualitative improvements in education and health services, as well as mobilize human resources for economic development. It is also the time to prepare to meet the new challenges of population ageing. The final outcome of the demographic transition will, therefore, depend on the effectiveness of strategies adopted to meet the opportunities and challenges it offers. Epidemiologic methods for health policy

Robert A. Spasoff

"This book is dedicated to the proposition that health policy should be evidence-based, and that epidemiology can provide much of the evidence. Unlike most epidemiology textbooks, which focus on etiologic research, Epidemiologic Methods for Health Policy emphasizes the descriptive methods that are relevant to policy. Many practical examples are provided, drawn from several developed countries, but mathematics is kept to an elementary level. A recurring theme is the interaction between health phenomena and the underlying population dynamics, and thus the close relationship of this type of epidemiology to demography."--Jacket.

Cover of Radiation therapy physics

Radiation therapy physics

William R. Hendee

"The techniques of state-of-the-art radiation therapy have evolved greatly in recent years. Treatment procedures such as conformal and intensity-modulated radiation therapy, high dose-rate and brachytherapy, and image-guided radiation therapy have become standards in radiation therapy clinics around the world. Teaching models for radiation therapy have advanced accordingly, as have the protocols for calibrating and applying radiation beams in treatment."--pub. desc.
