Molecular recognition and polymers

[edited by] Vincent Rotello, Sankaran Thayumanavan

Molecular Recognition and Polymers covers the fundamental aspects and applications of molecular recognition in the creation of novel polymeric materials for use in drug design and delivery, sensors, tissue engineering, and other areas. It provides examples of how supramolecular strategies can be used in the creation and self-assembly of polymers and covers state-of-the-art techniques for the design and characterization of non-covalent interactions in polymers in order to tailor the material's properties to various applications. This is a great reference for graduate students and researchers in.

Colloidal Dispersions Under Slit-Pore Confinement

Yan Zeng

This dissertation contributes to the understanding of fundamental issues in the highly interdisciplinary field of colloidal science. Beyond colloid science, the system also serves as a model for studying interactions in biological matter. This work quantitatively investigated the scaling laws of the characteristic lengths of the structuring of colloidal dispersions and tested the generality of these laws, thereby explaining and resolving some long-standing contradictions in the literature.

It revealed the effect of confinement on the structuring, independently of specific properties of the confining interfaces. In addition, it resolved the influence of roughness and charge of the confining interfaces on the structuring, as well as providing a method to measure the effect of surface deformability on colloidal structuring.

Cover of Spin electronics

Spin electronics

Michael Ziese, Martin J. Thornton, (eds

For 50 years conventional electronics has ignored the electron spin. The manipulation and utilisation of the electron spin heralds an exciting and rapidly changing era in electronics, combining the disciplines of magnetism and traditional electronics. The first generation of "spintronic" devices (such as read heads based on giant magnetoresistance or non-volatile magnetic random access memories) have already gained dominant positions in the market place. This volume, the first of its kind on spin electronics, describes all the essential topics for new researchers entering the field. It covers magnetism and semiconductor basics, micromagnetism, experimental techniques, material science, device fabrication and new developments in spin-dependent processes. At the end of most chapters are a number of exercises and worked problems to aid the reader in understanding this fascinating new field.
