Moments of reprieve
Primo Levi
These are Levi's memories of friends, of people he had traveled with, even of adversaries - begging him to help them survive.

by Primo Levi (1961)
This book describes Primo Levi's experiences in the concentration camp at Auschwitz during the Second World War. Levi, then a 25-year-old chemist, spent 10 months in Auschwitz before the camp was liberated by the Red Army. Of the 650 Italian Jews in his shipment, Levi was one of only twenty who left the camp alive. The average life expectancy of a new entry was three months. This truly amazing story offers a revealing glimpse into the realities of the Holocaust and its effects on our world. - Back cover.

Auschwitz exterminated those deemed 'undesirables' by the Third Reich: Jews, homosexuals, Communists. What is less known is that it was the fate of hundreds of British POWs to find it their prison and witness the atrocities meted out by the SS.

"This book describes the development of the legendary F4U Corsair, and follows it into battle from Guadalcanal to the Indian Ocean, Central Pacific Ocean, Korea, Africa, and Central America, and throughout its lengthy military career into Korea. Also included are chapters on the most decorated Corsair pilots, surviving examples of various models, as well as detailed appendices, and the author's own detailed line schemes and maps. A total of 2,814 F4U-1, F4U-1A, and F4U-2 Corsairs were constructed and delivered. Musciano's book describes how this naval fighter was transformed to perform a myriad of functions for which it was never intended."--P. [2] of cover.
