Semiconductors - Basic Data

by Otfried Madelung (1996)

About this book

The large handbooks in physics, chemistry and other disciplines contain data needed every day as well as additional equally important data needed only at longer time intervals. This volume contains the basic data and a full list of contents of the respective Landolt-Börnstein volumes from which the data were drawn. Hence the user is informed what additional information is held at his disposal in the more complete handbooks, i.e. this volume provides a bridge from the laboratory to the library. It contains data and further information about semiconducting substances.

Cover of Electrophotography and development physics

Electrophotography and development physics

L.B. Schein

Electrophotography and Development Physics focuses on the complicated and increasingly important technology found in photocopiers and laser printers. An introduction chapter acquaints the reader with the technical history of electrophotography, its current and projected markets, and also alternative related copying and printing technologies. A concise descriptionof the physics of the complete electrophotgraphic process is followed by an in-depth treatment of static electricity. The three types of developmentsystems (two component, monocomponent, and liquid), and their associated charging mechanisms. In this second edition, a discussion of the new color copiers and a chapter updating the original material have been added. On mastering this material, which is presented in a manner suitable for both the newcomer and the established expert, the reader will have a workingknowledge of the electrophotographic process and a detailed knowledge of its important subsystem, development.

Cover of Optical Response of Nanostructures

Optical Response of Nanostructures

Kikuo Cho

This book gives a theoretical description of linear and nonlinear optical responses of matter with special emphasis on the microscopic and "nonlocal" nature of resonant response. The response field and induced polarization are determined self-consistently in terms of simultaneous linear or nonlinear polynomial equations. This scheme is a general one with its position between QED and macroscopic response theory, but is most appropriate for determining the dependence of optical signals on the size, shape, and internal structure of a nanostructure sample. As a highlight of the scheme, the multi-resonant enhancement of the DFWM signal is described together with its experimental verification.

Cover of Magnetogasdynamics and Plasma Dynamics

Magnetogasdynamics and Plasma Dynamics

Shih-I Pai

This book is based on the lecture notes which the author gave in a seminar of the same title in the Institut fur theoretische Gasdynamik, D.V.L. e. V., Aachen, Germany, during the academic year of 1957-1958. The subject matter has been rewritten and expanded after the author's return to the University of Maryland. The purpose of this book is to give a theoretical introduction to plasma dynamics and magnetogasdynamics from the gasdynamic point of view. Attention is given to the basic assumptions and the formulation of the theory of the flow problems of a plasma, an ionized gas, as well as to the various methods of solving these problems. Since plasma dynamics is still in a developing stage, the author hopes that this book _may furnish the readers some basic elements in the theory of plasma -dynamics so that they may find it useful for further study and research in this new field. After the introduction in which the scope of plasma. dynamics is briefly discussed, the fundamental equations of plasma dynamics from the macro scopic point of view, i. e., the theory of continuum has been analyzed, in detail in chapters IT to IV, including many simplified cases sUQh as m, agneto gasdynamics, magnetohydrodynamics, electromaguetodynamics, radiation magnetogasdynamics etc. In chapter V, the important parameters and their range of applicatIons have been treated. The parameters are useful in the correlation of experi mental results.

Cover of Radar Target Imaging

Radar Target Imaging

W.-M. Boerner, H. Überall

Radar imaging, as understood here, involves target recognition, i.e. the determination of the detailed properties of an object (size, shape, structure and composition, and also location and speed) from radar echoes returned by it. Advanced approaches are required for this, and several of recent interest are discussed in this book. They include mathematical inverse-scattering techniques based on the solution of integral equations; use of the singularity expansion method (SEM), related to the resonance scattering theory (RST), in which the pattern of resonance-frequency location in the complex frequency plane can be employed to characterize a given radar target; and the use of polarization information. Finally, the measurement of radar cross-sections is described.
